Sang-E-Mah: A Gracious Drama

Bored of watching regular daily soaps or lame series and especially Sooryanvansham on every weekend on Sony Max. Oh! Sorry for the bad joke who watch Heera Thakur's kheer nowadays on TV but what will be your reaction if I throw a fact on your face that our neighbour arch rival Pakistan's serial or better say drama Industry is much more creatively developed and enriched than our daily soaps.

Our neighbours follow the Ost pattern or one episode per week pattern in their dramas with limited episodes normally in the range of 25-40. This is much similar to old days when Ramayan, Mahabharat and Vikram Betal would have limited no. of slots on DD National which in last results in a greater production quality and a enriched content with beautiful direction and background music.

So without wasting much more time let us discuss one such gem released in 2022 named 'Sang-e-Mah'.

Sang-E-Mah: A Gracious Drama

Frankly speaking I have checked the Sang-E-Mah just because it marks the acting debut of Atif Aslam and he is one of my favorite. Sang-E-Mah is an adaptation of famous play of Shakespeare 'Hamlet'.

Sang-E-Mah is written by Mustafa Afridi, directed by Saife Hassan and stars Atif Aslam, Nauman Ijaj, Kubra Khan and Hania Amir.

Let's see why one should watch the drama and what are the remarkable points of the drama.

1. Deep Screenplay

The most important part of any drama is it's screenplay and in this department Mustafa Afridi just hits out of the park. He has written the drama with so much perfection and with a unique technique in which a single event of flashback is shown in split parts in different episodes so that the viewer is always in suspense of what's happening next in the story.

All characters are developed brilliantly so much that you will never feel that any character is given less time in story. Screenplay is so smooth with its well written dialogues that viewer never feel the story being streched out or being slow.

In all the screenplay of this show is the main factor of this show's success and is full of suspense and feel and you will also get some knowledge about social evils practiced in pathans .

2. Catchy and Natural locations

If you are a fan of seeing natural locations in movies or dramas especially the hilly areas this drama will be a treat for you as it is a visual treat to watch such beautiful mountains, farms, rivers and much more.

The story revolves around Pathans so it is obvious that hills will be captured and it is a God gift for them that they have such natural locations to film and director Hassan has utilises it to it's full extent.

Drama allows you to enjoy and sink in the locations in your soul as it is shot in this way that the locations also play an integral factor in the story.

3. Classy Direction

The direction of this drama is top notch as the director has well implemented the screenplay in his work and make a world of his own in Laspiran village in which at one time you will feel yourself a part of Hilmand's gang of cool people and at the same time you will feel the seriousness and restlessness of Haji Majrat.

Most impressive thing of the direction for me is the ability to use background music. The director has not used background music blindly in every scene instead he sometime maintain a silence in the scene and use the natural sounds of location or just pure silene in background to amplify the conversation.

Camera angles are also perfect and every scene is beautifully shot and directed and every minute detail is being taken into consideration. In terms of direction it is a smart and impact leaving drama.

4. Melodious and Lyrically Strong Background Music and OST.

As we have discussed in previous point that use of background music is upto point but it would be unfair if we will not discuss about the OST of drama and background music.

Atif Aslam embraces the drama with his melodious voice with a composition of Sahir Ali Bagga. Use of Sehnai was the thing which just take the music to an another level and how the parts of music are used in every scene especially the lyrics are so on point that the scene's emotions amplify and hits you with double impact and the particular scene becomes a part of your memory.

Years will come and go but their will neve be any other Atif Aslam.

5. Acting of Nauman Ijaj.

The show marks the acting debut of Atif Aslam and he manages to do a quiet impressive job but what stands out is the performance of Nauman Ijaj as Haji Majrat. He just nailed all the emotions of such a well written character.

He owns his screen presence in every emotion whether it be ending night scene or scene in shah sahab's mosque, in every scene he just stands out. He is simply the best part of this show.

Other notable characters which are played brilliantly well are Gul mina's mother, Badam Gul and Mastana.

But Haji Majrat was exceptionally brilliant.

6. Blend of all emotions

The best part of this drama is that it has every emotion and genre blend beautifully in its core.

Whether it's childish and cute romance of Gul mina and Hikmat while the mature arc of Hilmand- Shehrzaad and Haji-Zarsanga
, revenge of Hilmand, tragedy for like everyone in Hilmand's family till end, comedy especially of Badam Gul and Hilmand's gang members staying at grave.

Especially don't miss the ending as it is the most impactful endings you will witness.

Overall sang-e-mah is a piece of art that i am sure you will crave to binge watch in a single day.

That's it guys without giving spoilers I can only tell you this much only otherwise with spoilers I am not sure where will I end today.
