Lapataganj: A Breath of Fresh Air

I still remember those nights when on SAB TV i watched shows like TMKOC at 8:30, Chidiya Ghar at 9, Lapataganj at 10, FIR at 10:30. Those were the golden old days of Indian television comedy. Now once sitting at home somehow I got a recommendation of a clip of Lapataganj and from past week I am again watching Lapataganj on YouTube and guess what it still feels relevant and fresh and the comic timing still lands.

So let's find out why shows like Lapataganj are still like a breath of fresh air and why are they still holding same comic impact as earlier.

So what today we miss from the current slate of pop culture comedy movies and serials are the sense of relativity and the satire.

In Lapataganj we see jokes and story lines on basic issues like poverty, lack of infrastructure, political development in countryside, unemployment ( through Biji Pandey) etc. 



The series still feels fresh as the actors seems to be from the world of Lapataganj by their body language. Like let's take the example of Kachua chacha or mishri mosi or indumati they never feel out of place.


The everyday normal discussion shown at suttilal's shop are what we see normaly in our localities. The show have a spine to take sarcastic angle on govt. Policies and lack of opportunities for the countryside people.


Lapataganj is not like today's TMKOC where everyone is happy and just pretending to be middle class. In Lapataganj people have their own share of problems and they collectively deal with it and the situation that comes out of the process is genuinely funny.



I don't know how can today's creators make these types of show where a set of characters discuss everyday issues, deal with them and have some light comic moments in between.


In recent years I only remember Bhuvan Bam successfully pulling multiple storylines and comic episodes from same set of characters. This technique is somewhere lost and we need it. Not long enough but their should be sitcoms running for 1-2 years with crisp storylines and brilliant comic timing also addressing the current social issues.


I am going to have my lunch and see another story from Lapataganj. Will you?

Dhurandhar 2: How will Major Iqbal end

 So after 10 years we have a spectacle like Bahubali which have its second part already in the editor 's box and we have some scenes of it teasing what would happen next. I still don't know whether releasing Dhurandhar 2 this fast is a good decision or not because it takes time for first part to reach its maximum audience. Laughter Rebooted: 5 Story Arcs to save TMKOC

It's 8:40 in the clock and while having dinner TMKOC is playing on the TV in background. This have been the routine of every hardcore TMKOC fan. But with each passing year the fans are becoming more and more irritated with the depleting humor and irrelevant story lines of the show and whenever in the afternoon they encounter with the OG old episodes the hate and frustration with the new episodes just gets bigger.  I am also one of those fans and like every gokuldham society lover I also have my wish list of story arcs that I feel could take the show close to it's glory days again.
