Dev and Danish both residing on different sides of Wagah Border are vibing on Bheegi Raatein a gem from Atif Aslam and they have a family function where that night a group of boys are going to break the dance floor on Dope Shope by Yo Yo Honey Singh.
This was a normal scene in early 2000's to early 2010's. What made it happen were two boy bands one Jal Band from Lahore, Pakistan and other Mafia Mundeer from Chandigarh, India. But do we listen there name in present scene or is there buzz still now and where are their members.
Let's see the journey of two of the most famous band originated from Punjab and whose songs United both neighbors in field of music.
Jal And Mafia Mundeer: Bands Besides Borders
Creation:
Jal: Atif Aslam a student pursuing engineering from Computer Science from Punjab University Lahore and his college senior Goher Mumtaz started their band in 2002 and Atif named it Jal as he said Blue was his favorite color at that time. They both composed a song named Aadat and uploaded it on Internet marking the start of Jal.
Mafia Mundeer: There is no clear start of Mafia Mundeer but in 2006 Honey Singh listened the work of Badshah and at that time Honey himself was producing music for Punjabi Songs. Badshah also liked the work of Honey and they both worked on a song Get Up Jawani. Later in coming years Raftaar, Ikka and Lil Golu were doing well in underground hip hop scene and they uploaded their work on Orkut and from their Honey liked their work and made them join the group. After this Honey felt a need to name the group so he named it Mafia Mundeer and they start doing work together.
Rise To Fame:
Jal: One could only imagine the success that Aadat achieved and it made Jal Band an overnight sensation in Pakistan and soon the song penetrated North Indian Belt also.
It went viral to an extent that it become the anthem of youth on both sides. They later in 2004 made the video of Aadat and it was also superhit like the audio version.
Mafia Mundeer: All the artists of crew worked on different projects simultaneously from which some shot to fame instantly. Honey Singh and Badshah's Get Up jawani was a hit while Dope Shope became a chartbuster.
Later they were joined by Alfaaz and J star and their work Haye mera Dil and Gabru were a wave among youth. The band was also in news due to some unpopular projects like Condom and Vol 1. But in all Mafia Mundeer was the top share via Bluetooth in that time.
Conflict:
Jal: After the overnight success things started to become wrong between Atif and Goher. Atif proposed that to manage their concerts Atif's big brother should join the band to which initially Goher agreed but after some months Goher accused Atif that his family is earning more money than him so if Atif's brother is in band than Goher's should also be.
This didn't go well and they lost contact for 2 months but then Atif approached Goher for a show in Lahore to which Goher agreed but in the last moment he backed off. From here Atif seperated from Goher and Jal band stayed with Goher.
One rumour is also that Atif sold the original composition of Jal band to Mahesh Bhatt to get a entry in bollywood but as said this is just a conspiracy theory and is never confirmed by any member of Jal.
Mafia Mundeer: Overall the crew was doing well but then Honey Singh's popularity start increasing more than the remaining members of crew. This was also accompanied by the fact that Honey Singh didn't give credit to Raftaar in Dope Shope and denied to recognize him also which was a big surprise for Raftaar and due to this he left the crew.
Ikka also left within 6 months and the reason stated by him was that due to Raftaar there was a communication gap between Honey and him.
Badshah also left the crew as allegedly he and Raftaar wrote the lyrics of Brown Rang the masterpiece of crew but their credit was not given to them by Honey and due to this differences developed between them and he also left the crew.
Further Move:
Jal: After the separation with Atif Goher recruited Farhaan Saeed in Jal and released an album named Jal. At the same time Atif released his album named Jal Pari and both had the chartbuster Bheegi Yaadein in it which didn't go well with Goher.
He filed a legal suit against Atif but court agreed to that fact that it was the shared composition of both of them so both own the song. After that Atif moved towards bollywood and enjoyed immense success working with Tips Music while Jal band also delivered hits after hits like Boondh, Sajni and many more.
Jal band was doing very well and they were winning various awards for their work but in 2011 Farhaan decided to go solo and also move towards acting so he left Jal and afterwards Goher himself become the lead vocalist of Jal but after then Jal's graph started to go down and they failed to recreate their previous magic.
Mafia Mundeer: After the separation of Ikka, Badshah and Raftaar Honey Singh regrouped the crew with the likes of Lil Golu, Alfaaz and J Star but due to exponential rise in fame of Honey Singh Mafia Mundeer lost its identity as a crew with passing time.
Honey tries his best to save Mafia Mundeer as whenever he went for overseas concerts he carried the whole crew and did the show on the name of Mafia Mundeer but after the bipolar disorder of Honey Singh the crew disappeared and the crew's name vanished.
Possibility Of Reunion And Present Buzz:
Jal: Atif has made a mark of his own in South Asian music scene while Farhaan is doing good with his acting career. Reportedly things become clear between Atif and Goher but speaking frankly the chances of reunion is less but one thing is sure if Jal band reunites they will explode the present scenario due to the nostalgia factor and the sheer ability of it's members.
Mafia Mundeer: Badshah and Raftaar have become national icon in Desi Hip Hop and pop scene while Honey Singh is struggling to gain his previous popularity due to his mediocre projects after his comeback. Terms are now good between Badshah and Raftaar and Ikka and Lil Golu are also in touch with Badshah and Raftaar. The thing is that relation of Honey is still unclear with Badshah and Raftaar making the chance of Rebirth of Mafia Mundeer dim. But if Mafia Mundeer reunited considering the present individual fanbase of it's members and the nostalgia factor crew will break all the streaming records and it will be a big boost for Desi Hip Hop (DHH) also.
Quite amazing 🤩
