So it was a perfect sunday afternoon and I was just changing the movie channels so that I can get something to kill the time and to get distracted from the turmoil of life. While surfing around the TV on zee classic I found avtar. Now this is not the Cameron's avtar as you might think it is the Rajesh khanna classic.  I have fully watched it with papa way back and remember the whole plot. It is a good watch. 

Now as I had watched the full film earlier I changed the channel and then I got to see Baghban. Now everybody have watched this film with their parents atleast one time with their parents else how could it be so popular in meme culture. But then a thought suddenly striked my mind that soul of both Baghban and Avtar are same just the climax is different. So here I am to share my thoughts on the contrasting climax of both movies. 

Baghban vs Avtar: Two schools of Indian wives

So coming to Avtar in short, this movie have Rajesh khanna and his wife with their 2 children and a servant. Rajesh khanna worked very hard to make both of his sons successful as every father do but when his sons succeeded in life they left their parents alone. Now Rajesh khanna was a motor mechanic and with the help of his loyal servant he invented a very efficient fuel pump and become super rich in some time. Meanwhile his sons become bankrupt and when they come to their mother for the help. Rajesh khanna's wife supported her children in front of him and in this constant dilemma same night, Rajesh khanna wrote some part of his wealth for his sons in his will and died due to cardiac arrest. 

Baghban was the same sons abandoned their parents, in it also like the servant their was Salman khan who was not the actual son of Amitabh but he supported them and they eventually become rich but the point of difference between both movies comes in climax where Hema Malini refuses to take side of her children in front of Amitabh. 

If we see these 2 climax we can clearly see in one case the lady decided to give priority to her role of mother and in other she prefer role of wife. If we see both movies one can say in Avtar children were bankrupt and more in need of money while in Baghban children were just asking sorry so refusing children was difficult in case of Avtar than Baghban but this is just a thought. 

These 2 movies also show the difference in the thinking of Indian women in different eras. Avtar set 20-30 years before Baghban have a wife who surrendered in front of her children despite of all the difficulties she and her husband had to face due to them but the Baghban one was strong and more supportive towards her husband. 

Avtar one lost her husband also due to this while Baghban one remained happy and also gave her husband the confidence that she is always with her in all situations. 

In my opinion Hema malini choice was more correct and more loyal towards her husband than Avtar. They are just my opinion based on my rational thinking. I don't know what thoughts and mental state our elders have to face at that age but from audience point of view, if we conclude Baghban's ending was more satisfactory than Avtar.
